Cheap Calls to Pakistan: Real 2026 Rates and the Truth About 1p a Minute

August 24, 20269 min readBubblyPhone Team

Cheap calls to Pakistan cost $0.04–$0.13/min in 2026 — verified rates for Rebtel, Yolla, Viber, Google Voice and browser calling from the UK, Saudi Arabia and USA.

Cheap calls to Pakistan — real per-minute rates from the UK, Saudi Arabia and the USA compared

A genuinely cheap call to Pakistan costs $0.04–$0.13 per minute in August 2026 — roughly 4¢/min from calling apps like Rebtel and Yolla at the low end, about 12¢/min from a browser dialer like BubblyPhone with no app or subscription, and free app-to-app on WhatsApp. The “1p a minute” offers still advertised to UK callers are access-number pricing tricks that can quietly cost 50p+ per minute from a mobile — we break down exactly how below.

Every rate on this page was checked against the provider's own public price list (or, for BubblyPhone, pulled straight from our live rate database) on August 24, 2026. No “from” prices copied off a five-year-old affiliate page. If you'd rather test call quality before spending anything, start with our free calls to Pakistan guide — this page is about getting the lowest paid per-minute price once the free minutes run out.

How Much Does It Cost to Call Pakistan?

Pakistan is a mid-priced destination: mobile termination fees there put honest rates in the 4–13¢/min band, so anything advertised dramatically below that is recovering the money somewhere else (access numbers, connection fees, credit expiry). Here's the verified comparison:

ServiceLandline (PTCL)Mobile (Jazz / Telenor)Fine print
Rebtel€0.042/min€0.042/minOr 250 min/month for €12; app required
Yollafrom $0.044/minfrom $0.045/minOr $9 for 250 min/30 days; app required

Google Voice$0.05–0.08/minup to $0.16/minUS-registered accounts only; rate table has shifted during 2026
BubblyPhone (browser)$0.13/min$0.12/minNo app, no subscription, no expiry; works from any country
US carrier, no add-on$0.25–$1.99+/minT-Mobile ~$0.25/min; Verizon pay-per-minute from $0.49/min
Saudi carrier, no add-on~SAR 1+/min (~$0.27+)Drops to SAR 0.04/min with STC's free Sawa International add-on

Rebtel, Yolla and Viber rates read from their public Pakistan rate pages on August 24, 2026. BubblyPhone rates pulled from our live rate database the same day: $0.1292/min to Islamabad and Karachi landlines, $0.1260/min to Jazz mobiles, $0.1178/min to Telenor mobiles. Full breakdown on our rates page.

One quirk worth knowing: Pakistani mobiles are slightly cheaper to call than landlines on wholesale routes — the reverse of almost every other country. Our own rate card prices a Telenor mobile at $0.1178/min against $0.1292/min for a Karachi landline. So don't hunt for a landline number to save money; the 03xx mobile your family actually answers is the cheaper call. Estimate any call length with the call cost calculator.

Cheap Calls to Pakistan From the UK — Is 1p a Minute Real?

Almost never in practice. The “1p/min to Pakistan” services that dominated UK corner-shop posters work through access numbers: you dial an 0871, 0844 or similar premium prefix first, and that leg is billed by your own phone company. Since Ofcom split these calls into a “service charge” plus your provider's “access charge,” the access charge alone commonly runs 45–80p per minute from UK mobile contracts. The Pakistan leg really is 1p — the UK leg is where you pay.

Physical calling cards have their own toolkit: connection fees per call, billing in 3–4 minute rounding blocks, weekly “maintenance” fees, and credit that expires. A £5 card advertising 500 minutes to Pakistan routinely delivers a fraction of that once the deductions land.

What a UK caller actually pays in 2026, honestly:

Calling apps: ~3.5–4.5p/min

Rebtel (€0.042/min ≈ 3.6p) and Yolla (~$0.045/min ≈ 3.5p) are the cheapest legitimate per-minute prices to Pakistan right now — genuinely less than the old calling cards ever delivered after fees. Trade-off: an app install, an account, and (on Rebtel's plans) a subscription to manage.

Browser dialer: ~9–10p/min, zero commitment

BubblyPhone is ~$0.12/min (≈9.5p) to Pakistani mobiles — not the cheapest per minute, but there's no app, no subscription, no expiring credit, and it works identically from a work laptop, a borrowed phone, or abroad. A weekly 20-minute call home costs about £1.90.

International-minute SIMs and bundles

Lycamobile and Lebara bundles include Pakistan minutes and suit high-volume callers who don't mind a second SIM or switching networks. Check whether the allowance covers all Pakistani mobile networks — some bundles carve out or cap certain destinations.

Cheap Calls to Pakistan From Saudi Arabia and the Gulf

With roughly 1.6 million Pakistanis living in Saudi Arabia, this is one of the busiest calling corridors in the world — and the one where the price spread is most extreme. Standard STC pay-as-you-go international dialing runs around SAR 1+/min, but STC's Sawa International add-on drops Pakistan to SAR 0.04/min (~$0.011) — one of the cheapest carrier rates to Pakistan anywhere on earth. It costs nothing to activate: call 1500 free from your Sawa SIM or switch it on in the mySTC app. If you're on STC and call Pakistan regularly, activate it today; no app or VoIP service beats it from inside the Kingdom, ours included.

  • STC Sawa International: SAR 0.04/min to Pakistan, no monthly fee — the corridor's best price (verified from STC's public pages, May 2026).
  • STC Flex Pakistan: 300 minutes for SAR 80.5 per 28 days if you prefer a fixed bundle.
  • Mobily international bundles: roughly SAR 0.27–0.50/min depending on plan tier, via the My Mobily app or *1800#.
  • WhatsApp and IMO: free and officially permitted on Saudi networks since the VoIP ban was lifted in September 2017. IMO matters here specifically — it's the second most-used voice app in Pakistan, especially in older and rural households, so it's often what your family actually answers.

The catch Gulf-based callers actually run into isn't on the Saudi side — it's Pakistan's. The PTA has periodically throttled app-based VoIP inside Pakistan, and when app calls fail or degrade, a call that terminates as a regular phone call on the Pakistani network still connects: that means Sawa International, a Mobily bundle, or a browser call from BubblyPhone (which works over a normal internet connection on STC, Mobily and Zain at ~$0.12/min). Same story if the person you're calling has a basic phone or patchy data — a real call to their 03xx number needs nothing installed on their end.

Timing tip: Pakistan is 2 hours ahead of Saudi Arabia year-round, so 7–9 PM in Riyadh lands at 9–11 PM family time. Corridor deep-dives: calling Pakistan from Saudi Arabia and from the UAE (a much more restrictive VoIP environment than Saudi).

Cheap Calls to Pakistan From the USA

Dialing +92 straight from a US mobile plan without an international add-on is the most expensive way on this page: around $0.25/min on T-Mobile and from $0.49/min on Verizon's pay-per-minute rates. The carriers' fix is a monthly add-on (Verizon Global Calling at $5/month, T-Mobile Stateside International Talk at $15/month) — worth it only if you call enough every single month to cover the fee.

For everyone else: apps (Rebtel, Yolla) at 4–5¢/min for heavy callers, Google Voice at $0.05–0.16/min if you already live in its ecosystem, or a browser call at ~12¢/min with no monthly commitment — a one-hour call to a Jazz mobile costs about $7.56, versus $15+ in carrier pay-per-minute charges. Dialing format and prefix details in our calling Pakistan from the US guide.

Do Pakistani Numbers Cost the Person You're Calling Anything?

No. Pakistan uses calling-party-pays billing, like nearly every country: the person placing the international call pays the whole cost, and answering it costs your family nothing — no charge, no deduction from their prepaid balance, whether it's a Jazz mobile or a PTCL landline. The only exception is if the person you're calling has taken their Pakistani SIM abroad, in which case their carrier's roaming charges for receiving calls apply to them. Calling a Pakistani number inside Pakistan never costs the callee a rupee.

Calling Pakistani Mobiles vs Landlines

Pakistani mobile numbers start with 03 domestically. From abroad, drop the leading zero: 0300 1234567 becomes +92 300 1234567. The digits after +92 3 identify the network — useful because some bundles and rate cards price networks differently:

Prefix (after +92)NetworkOur rate
300–309, 320–324Jazz (incl. former Warid) — Pakistan's largest$0.126/min
310–316Zong (China Mobile)see rates
330–337Ufone (PTCL group)see rates
340–346Telenor — strongest rural coverage$0.118/min

Landlines use city area codes instead: Karachi +92 21, Lahore +92 42, Islamabad/Rawalpindi +92 51, Faisalabad +92 41, Peshawar +92 91. As covered above, landlines aren't the budget option for Pakistan — our Karachi and Islamabad landline rate ($0.129/min) sits slightly above the mobile rates, so call whichever number your family actually picks up. Both mobile and landline calls connect as ordinary phone calls on the Pakistani side: no app, data plan, or smartphone needed by the person receiving.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cheapest way to call Pakistan in 2026?
App-to-app (WhatsApp, IMO) is free if both sides have the app and data. For calling real Pakistani numbers, the cheapest verified per-minute prices are Rebtel and Yolla at roughly $0.04–0.05/min, a browser dialer like BubblyPhone at ~$0.12/min with no app or subscription, and — from Saudi Arabia specifically — STC Sawa International at SAR 0.04/min, the cheapest rate on any route.
Are 1p-per-minute calls to Pakistan from the UK real?
Only the Pakistan leg is 1p. These services route through 0871/0844-style access numbers billed by your own UK provider, whose access charge commonly adds 45–80p per minute from mobile contracts. Honest UK prices in 2026 are 3.5–4.5p/min via calling apps or ~9.5p/min via a browser dialer with no subscription.
How much does it cost to call Pakistan from Saudi Arabia?
Standard STC dialing is ~SAR 1+/min, but STC's free-to-activate Sawa International add-on (call 1500) drops Pakistan to SAR 0.04/min — about a cent. Mobily bundles run roughly SAR 0.27–0.50/min. WhatsApp and IMO calls are free and have been officially permitted on Saudi networks since September 2017.
Is it cheaper to call a Pakistani landline or mobile?
Unusually, mobiles are slightly cheaper: our live rate card prices Telenor mobiles at $0.1178/min and Jazz at $0.1260/min against $0.1292/min for Karachi or Islamabad landlines. Most services price both within a fraction of a cent, so call whichever number gets answered.
Does receiving my call cost my family in Pakistan anything?
No. Pakistan uses calling-party-pays billing — you pay the full cost of the call, and answering is free for them on any Pakistani mobile or landline. They only pay if they've taken their Pakistani SIM abroad and are roaming.
Why not just use WhatsApp for every call to Pakistan?
When both sides have WhatsApp and solid data, do — it's free. Paid calling covers the gaps: relatives on basic phones or landlines, patchy rural data, and the periods when Pakistan's regulator throttles app-based calling inside the country — a call that arrives as a regular phone call on their 03xx number connects regardless, with nothing installed on their end.
