How to Make International Calls
Step-by-step guide to making international calls with BubblyPhone. Country codes, dial pad, during-call controls, and favorites.
BubblyPhone supports calls to 82 countries. This article covers how to dial correctly, what to expect during a call, and features available while you are on a call.
Selecting the Correct Country Code
Open the Dialer and click the country code dropdown at the left of the phone number input. You can scroll through the list or type to search by country name. Each entry shows the country flag, name, and dialing code.
Drop the Leading Zero
This is the most common mistake when dialing international numbers. When you call from within a country, local numbers often start with a zero. When calling internationally, you must remove that leading zero. BubblyPhone's country code replaces it.
Examples for popular destinations:
- United Kingdom (+44) — Local number 020 7946 0958 becomes 2079460958. Drop the leading 0.
- India (+91) — Mobile number 098765 43210 becomes 9876543210. Drop the leading 0.
- Australia (+61) — Local number 02 9876 5432 becomes 298765432. Drop the leading 0.
- Philippines (+63) — Mobile number 0917 123 4567 becomes 9171234567. Drop the leading 0.
Using the Dial Pad vs. Typing Directly
You can enter the phone number by typing on your keyboard or by clicking the on-screen dial pad buttons. Both methods work the same way. The dial pad is convenient on tablets and touchscreen devices. On a desktop computer, typing is usually faster.
What Happens After You Press Call Now
After pressing the Call Now button, the call goes through these stages:
- Initiating — The call is being set up. This takes a few seconds.
- Ringing— The recipient's phone is ringing. You will hear a ringing tone in your browser. You are not charged during ringing.
- Connected — The other person has answered. Your call is now active, and billing begins.
If the call is not answered, you will see a "Failed" status. See Why Did My Call Fail? for details on what that means.
During-Call Controls
While your call is active, you have access to these controls:
- Mute / Unmute — Turns your microphone on or off. The other person cannot hear you while muted. Click again to unmute.
- Dial pad digits (DTMF) — Use the dial pad during a call to navigate automated phone menus (press 1 for English, press 2 for billing, etc.). The tones are sent to the other end.
- Call duration timer — A real-time counter showing how long you have been on the call.
- End Call — Hangs up and ends the call.
Quick Redial from Call History
Your recent calls appear in the Call History section. You can tap any previous call to see its details, then use the "Call Again" button to redial the same number instantly without re-entering it.
Favorite Countries
If you frequently call certain countries, you can save up to 6 favorites for quick access. Your favorite countries appear at the top of the country code dropdown, so you do not have to search for them each time.
