Voicemail Features
Custom greetings, automatic transcription, listening to voicemails in the dashboard or via email, and storage retention for your dedicated US number voicemails.
When someone calls your dedicated number and you don't answer, the call rolls to voicemail. We record the message, transcribe it, email it to you, and store it in your dashboard for as long as you want.
When voicemail kicks in
A call goes to voicemail when:
- You don't answer in your browser within ~25 seconds
- You don't answer the cell-forward leg either (if forwarding is enabled)
- Your account balance is too low for live ringing (we send straight to voicemail)
The greeting
By default, callers hear a generic greeting. You can upload a custom one from the number's settings page:
- Go to My Numbers, click your number.
- Find the Voicemail greeting card.
- Click Upload greeting and choose an audio file (MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC — up to 5MB).
- The new greeting goes live immediately — the next call uses it.
To remove the custom greeting and revert to the default, click Remove on the same card.
Recording length
Callers have up to 90 seconds to leave a message. After 90 seconds (or when they hang up sooner) the recording stops automatically.
Transcription
Every voicemail is automatically transcribed to text. Transcription typically completes within 30 seconds of the call ending. The transcript appears in:
- Your voicemail email notification
- The voicemail's entry in My Numbers → Voicemail
If transcription fails (rare — usually due to background noise or unintelligible audio), the email and dashboard say "Transcription unavailable" and you can still listen to the audio recording.
Listening to voicemails
Two ways to listen:
- From the email.Click the "Listen in your dashboard" button to jump to the voicemail in your inbox.
- From the dashboard. Go to My Numbers → click your number → Voicemail. Each message has an audio player you can press play on directly.
Storage and retention
Voicemails are stored indefinitely. You can manually delete any voicemail from the inbox using the trash icon. Deleting a voicemail also removes the audio recording from our storage — there's no recovery.
Disabling voicemail emails
If you only want to check voicemails in the dashboard and not receive emails, go to Settings and toggle Email me when I get a voicemail off.
Voicemail costs
Voicemail recording itself is included with your $3/month rental. There's no per-message fee. Transcription is also included.
