Country Codes: The Complete List
Every international dialing code, grouped by region — with the exit codes and dialing rules you need to place the call correctly.
A country code (or international dialing code) is the 1–3 digit prefix you dial after your exit code to reach another country — for example +1 for the US, +44 for the UK, and +91 for India. Every country in the world has at least one, assigned by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This page is a complete, region-by-region reference of the codes you are most likely to dial, covering 110 countries and territories.
Looking for one specific country? Use the interactive country code lookup tool — it's the searchable, always-current version of this list. To check whether a number is valid and which country it belongs to, try the phone number validator.
What is a country code, and where does it go?
A country code is the part of an international phone number that identifies the destination country. A full international number is built in three parts: your exit code (which tells your network you are dialing abroad), the country code (which routes the call to the right country), and the national number (the local number, usually without its leading 0).
Example, calling London from the US: 011 44 20 7946 0000. From a mobile anywhere, replace the exit code with +: +44 20 7946 0000.
The +symbol is shorthand for “whatever the exit code is here.” Saving numbers in + format (E.164) means they work from any country without editing. That is why every entry in the tables below is shown with a leading +.
What exit code do I dial before the country code?
The exit code (also called the international access code or IDD prefix) depends on the country you are calling from, not the one you are calling. Here are the most common ones:
| Calling from | Exit code | Example (to +1) |
|---|---|---|
| United States & Canada | 011 | 011 + 44 + number |
| Most of Europe, Asia, Africa | 00 | 00 + 1 + number |
| Australia | 0011 | 0011 + 1 + number |
| Japan | 010 | 010 + 1 + number |
| Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan | 810 | 810 + 1 + number |
| Mobile (anywhere) | + | + 44 + number |

Codes shown with an area-code range in brackets (e.g. +1 (809)) share the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) and use +1 with a distinguishing 3-digit area code.

Why do some countries share a country code?
Several countries share a single country code but stay distinct through area codes. The biggest example is +1, the North American Numbering Plan, shared by the United States, Canada, and around 20 Caribbean nations such as Jamaica (+1 876) and the Dominican Republic (+1 809). Russia and Kazakhstan share +7. The leading digit of a country code also hints at the world zone: 1 is North America, 2 is mostly Africa, 3 and 4 are Europe, 5 is Central and South America, 6 is Oceania and Southeast Asia, 7 is Russia, 8 is East Asia, and 9 is South and West Asia and the Middle East.
Once you have the code, how do you call without a huge bill?
The country code only routes the call — it does not set the price. Traditional carriers can charge several dollars per minute for international calls, while a browser-based VoIP service routes the same call over the internet for a fraction of that. BubblyPhone connects directly to the recipient's regular phone, so they do not need any app installed.
