Call Kuwait for $0.13/min with BubblyPhone. WhatsApp works here (unlike UAE which blocks VoIP). No area codes — all 8-digit. Friday-Saturday weekend. +965 dialing guide, Zain/Ooredoo/STC carriers.
You can call Kuwait free with WhatsApp: WhatsApp voice and video calls work in Kuwait (unlike the UAE, which blocks them), and so do FaceTime and Messenger. To reach a Kuwaiti phone number, dial +965 and the 8-digit number; BubblyPhone charges from $0.14/min, or $8.40 for a full hour.
Kuwait has no area codes, and its weekend is Friday-Saturday, not Saturday-Sunday. Here's every option for calling Kuwait cheaply or for free.
Free: App-to-App Calls
Both people need the app and internet. No charges, no limits.
1. WhatsApp — Works in Kuwait
WhatsApp voice and video calls work in Kuwait — this is important because neighboring UAE blocks VoIP calls. Kuwait is more permissive with internet communication. WhatsApp is widely used for both personal and business communication. Zain, Ooredoo, and STC Kuwait provide excellent 4G/5G coverage.
Tip: Unlike the UAE (where WhatsApp/FaceTime calls are blocked), Kuwait allows VoIP. If your contact recently moved from Dubai to Kuwait, let them know they can now use WhatsApp calls freely.
2. Facebook Messenger — Popular
Messenger is popular in Kuwait, especially among younger users. Voice and video calls work without restrictions.
3. Snapchat — Surprisingly Big
Kuwait has one of the highest Snapchat penetration rates in the world. While primarily used for messaging and stories, Snapchat also supports voice and video calls.
4. FaceTime — Very Popular
iPhone market share in Kuwait is very high — around 50-55%. Apple is extremely popular in the Gulf. FaceTime works in Kuwait (unlike UAE) and is commonly used.
Calling Kuwaiti Phone Numbers
Kuwait is moderately priced for international calling:
| Service | Rate | 60 min cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| BubblyPhone | $0.14/min | $8.40 | Browser, iOS, Android |
| Google Voice | $0.06/min | $3.60 | US Google account required — cheapest |
| Rebtel | $0.08/min | $4.80 | Unlimited plans available |
| AT&T / Verizon | $2.00-3.50/min | $120-210 | Up to 40x more expensive |
Our honest take: Google Voice ($0.06/min) is cheaper than BubblyPhone ($0.14/min) for Kuwait. A 60-minute call costs $3.60 with Google Voice vs $8.40 with BubblyPhone. But WhatsApp and FaceTime are free — and they work in Kuwait (unlike UAE).
